Almost Worth Knowing: Disney World Was Fun and Blogging is Hard When You're On Vacation
So, first off, I'd like to say that I had fun today at Disney World. I will get into it a bit more later on this week. For what it's worth, I am entirely exhausted, but I'm still trying to do what I can.
On Sunday, 10/12/08, I wrote about Six Flags Fright Fest, a Lasting Tradition. My challenge was for any of my readers to come up with any other alliterations or pseudo-alliterations in the style of "Fright Fest." Ghostly Gala, for instance, was the one I came up with. While no one chose to answer, other answers could have included "scary soiree," "sinister soiree," "supernatural soiree," "boogey bash," or "fearful festival" among a bunch of possible others I'm sure. Since ADyates brought a very special version of Monster Mash to my attention, however, he will get a point since "monster mash" is an alliteration that fits the theme.
The following day, I used Tony's Monster Mash reference as a starting point to launch into a blog entitled Amongst Television's Greatest Moments. The blog started out about Mike Tyson's singing, but the challenges provided a brief glimpse into his illustrious glory days. The first challenge was to name characters from the famous video game, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. Off the top of my head, I could remember Glass Joe, Piston Honda, Dancing Flamingo, Bald Bull, Soda Popowski, King Hippo, and Macho Man. In reality, Dancing Flamingo's name is Don Flamenco, Soda Popowski is Soda Popinski, and Macho Man was actually Super Macho Man... but I had the rest right. In addition to those I listed, other members of the cast included Von Kaiser, Great Tiger, and Mr. Sandman.
The second challenge of the day was to name the year Tyson suffered his huge defeat to Buster Douglas. The answer is 1990." I remember it vaguely since I was young, but even I had a sense of how big of an upset it was.
The final challenge of the day was this: "Shortly after losing, Tyson went to jail for a rape conviction. He was finally released in 1995, and soon went back into boxing. In 1996, Tyson fought Evander Holyfield in the a highly anticipated fight dubbed 'Finally.' Surprisingly, Holyfield won, though there was controversy concerning Holyfield's use of 'accidental" head-butts. A rematch was scheduled, and Tyson-Holyfield II occurred in 1997. This is the well-known fight in which Tyson bit Holyfield's ears, leaving a piece on the mat. The final challenge is this: similar to the way Tyson-Holyfield I was dubbed "Finally," what was the media given name for Tyson-Holyfield II? Internets not allowed." The answer, for the benefit of anyone who hears this name and thinks it is awesome, is "The Sound and the Fury."
